Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

We took the kids down to Colorado Springs to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.  It was AMAZING!  So different than any Zoo I have ever been to.  The Zoo is built on the side of a mountain.  To get to the very top you have to use 2 elevators (at least if you take a stroller)!  They also have a little train car that will take you up and down the mountain if you choose!  We chose to walk and use the elevators!  It was so much fun and a great workout!  Another thing about the Zoo is how close you get to the animals!  Lily was able to get close enough to pet a Wallaby, goat, chickens, and GIRAFFES!  That is right, GIRAFFES!  We started our trip with the memorable experience of feeding the Giraffes a good serving of lettuce!  Lily was a little nervous at first, but soon decided it was very fun!

Not every day you get to pet and feed a giraffe!

Lily petting the baby wallaby.  She did a great job being gentle with all the animals she got to pet!

 Taking a break for lunch
TJ and Lily tried on the monkey arms.  I always knew I had a couple of monkeys in the family!

Logan enjoyed the monkeys because they were moving around enough for him to see them.  He also enjoyed watching the frogs jump!

When the face painting lady asked Lily what she wanted, she said green spots on her arms.  The lady was a little taken a back by the request but gave them to her anyways!  So this is Lily styling the lovely green spots!

They had a great place for kids with toys and animals that they could pet.  Some of the animals were goats.  First they did a show for the kids to show them how the goats can walk on really small pieces of wood and then they got to pet the goats.

It was crazy how close you were to all the animals because of the way the zoo is built around the mountain.

This deer is not part of the Zoo exhibits.  It had wondered into the Zoo and decided to stay a while.  It was along the walk enjoying some grass.  I guess that is what you get when you have a Zoo on the mountains!

I am not going to lie, while looking at the pictures and reading about how Lily got to pet all the animals-and the next picture I came to was the tiger--I got a little nervous! Looks like a blast though! Zoo's are so fun! I bet there is one somewhere here in OK...... :)
